Fox Farm Nutrients For Soil

What’s so special about Fox Farm?

They were (and still are!) way ahead of their time:

Fox Farm is the market leader when it comes to soils for growing cannabis, starting in the early ’80s in Humboldt County, a passion and desire grew to offer a different kind of soil that was not sterilized.

During that time, most soils were designed to be free of microbes, this is where Fox Farm began – they understood that the key to giving life to plants and providing them with everything they need from the ground up begins in the soil, and with over 4 decades of knowledge from one of the most experienced places in the world for growing the best cannabis, you can be sure you are buying good soil.

Fox Farm Soil:

Fox Farm currently offers 12! different types of growing mediums, mostly coco-coir and soil, each medium is specially blended with different additives, formulated to meet the changing requirements that growers face.

It’s important to know the difference between growing in coco-coir versus growing in soil, coco-coir contains little to no nutrients and will almost always require nutrients to be added. I’ve written a blog post on the differences between coco-coir and soil if you would like to learn more

Do I need to add Nutrients to Fox Farm Soil?

This may be a no-brainer, but if you are new to growing, double check that you are using soil and not coco-coir, it may sound obvious but it is an easy mistake to make – coco-coir looks and acts the same as soil but does not contain the nutrition that soil does and requires nutrition from the start.

If you are using soil from Fox farms, such as Ocean Forest, then you shouldn’t need to add nutrients for the first 2 to 4 weeks as these soils are already nutrient-rich, but after that – your plants will soon use up the nutrients in the soil and will be searching for more. If the time is right to start feeding your plants, It’s important to note that two different types of nutrients will be needed, vegetative and flowering nutrients.

Fox Farm Trio Formula Nutrients for soil

Fox Farm has perfected nutrients for coco-coir, soil and hydroponics. I’m only going to cover the nutrients needed for growing in soil in this post.

Used by millions worldwide, one of the best-performing nutrients package from Fox Farms not only contains the essential nutrients needed for cannabis plants to thrive, but they are also extremely well priced, making them so attractive to many growers. The three-pack of their favorite liquid fertilizers contain:

Big Bloom®Big Bloom will intensify flower fragrance, and will increase essential oil production.
Grow Big®
Comprehensive blend of major, minor, and micro-nutrients, containing 6% Nitrogen, 4% Phosphorus and 4% Potassium.
Tiger Bloom® Ready to bloom? Tiger Bloom makes it happen. This is an ultra-potent, fast-acting, high-phosphorus fertilizer with just enough nitrogen to sustain healthy, vigorous green growth during flowering.

Why are Soil nutrients different to hydroponic / coco-coir nutrients?

All nutrients contain the three major elements needed for plant growth, Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium.

Nutrients that have been designed for use on the soil will typically not contain high levels of essential micronutrients as they are usually contained within the soil, and are not heavily present within the fertiliser.

This is another reason why it is important that you choose a good quality soil, preferably one from Fox Farms if you intend on using their nutrients, this way you can know for sure that the right micronutrients are available to the plant.

Problems start to arise for the plants if micronutrients are missing in the soil.

Nutrients intended for coco-coir or hydroponics will generally contain a wider range of micronutrients as these will not be present in coco-coir / water at the same levels they are in Soil.

Coco-Coir nutrients will also contain higher Calcium and Magnesium levels as these nutrients bind to the coir becoming unavailable for absorption by the plant.

Ocean Forest Potting Soil vs Happy Frog Potting Soil

Both Ocean Forest and Happy Frog Potting Soils are full of fishing worm castings, bat guano, sphagnum moss and aged wood debris, and supply the perfect environment for any garden. There are a couple of distinct variations between these 2 products.

Ocean Forest is a premium product that contains ocean-going ingredients like brown algae, crab meal and shrimp meal.

Happy Frog Potting Soil is a cost-effective different that has humic acid and useful microbes.
